Chintpurni Temple, Una

The Mata Chintpurni Temple at Una is one of the fifty-one Shakti Peeths in the country of India. Dedicated to Mata Chintpurni Devi and Mata Shri Chhinnamastika Devi, the temple is situated at an altitude of 940 meters. The literally meaning of the name is a remover of worries and troubles and therefore the Goddess is believed to take away the worries of her devotees.

Situated on the highest peaks of the Sola Singhi hills range, Chintpurni temple is situated on the Hoshiarpur - Dharamshala road. Chintpurni temple remains open from 4am to 11pm and is a half a km’s walk through a busy market. At the center of the temple, there is a garbha griha where the image of Mata Chintpurni Devi can be seen in the form of a 'Pindi' i.e. round stone. People stand in queues to offer their prayers and seek blessings from the deity. It is believed that the goddess happily fulfills the wishes and prayers of thoseswhocomes to the temple with a pure and true heart.

A grand fair is held at Chintpurni temple in the months of July and August, known as the Sawan Ashtami Fair. This fair starts on the first Sawan Navaratra and goes on for it is a ten consecutive days. During this time, the temple is flocked with numerous pilgrims and devotees from within the state as well as other parts of the country.

It is believed that the shrine of Mata Chintpurni was founded by a Saraswat Brahman named Pandit Mai Das twenty-six generations ago in Chhaproh village. With the passage of time of time, the place came to be known as Chintpurni after the deity, who used to take away trouble of people who prayed with a pure heart. The prayers at the temple are still performed by the descendants of the Brahmin who live in Chintpurni.
